Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA Sumsel)-The number of foreign tourists visiting South Sumatra through Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang, in August 2016, reached 1,138, an increase of 11.24 percent over the previous month.

The number did not, however, include visitors entering South Sumatra on trains, buses, and boats, Head of the South Sumatra Statistic Office Yos Rusdiyansyah said here, Wednesday.

The hotel room occupancy rate in August reached 49.27 percent, a slight drop of 0.89 point from 50.16 percent in July.

The hotel room occupancy rate in five-star hotels, however, was reported at 81.96 percent.

The average stay duration for foreign visitors was 3.74 days, up 0.44 day compared July 2016.

The number of Malaysian tourists increased by 68, China 25, and Singapore 18 people, compared to those in July.

The increase in the percentage of tourists from Thailand reached 500 percent, Britain 300 percent and China 108.70 percent.

Compared to the figure in August 2015, the number of Malaysian tourists increased by 158 people, or 27.57 percent, Singapore by 44 people or 65.67 percent, and China by 30 or 166.67 percent.
