Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA Sumsel) - Palembang, the capital of Indonesia`s South Sumatran Province, is increasing the number of its tourist destinations in the face of the 18th Asian Games in 2018.

Palembang`s Tourism Service Head Isnaini Madani said here on Sunday that the South Sumatran provincial capital is developing a number of new tourist destinations such as colorful floating villages at Musi River banks, the Sekanak Kerihin resort, the Tugu Belido tower, and the Sudirman Walk venue.

"Different tourist destinations have been developed, yet Palembang still continues to develop ones including village nuance tourism like the Al Munawar Village and the Kapitan village," said Isnaini.

He said the City of Palemang also continues to upgrade the existing tourist destinations in the face of the Asian Games which will be held in South Sumatra and Jakarta.

Included in the existing destinations are the Bukit Sigintung hill, the Kuto Besak fortress, the Al Munawar and Kapitan villages, the Public Housing Creative Corner and the Sky Park.

"We also have asked the opening hours for the Museum in Palembang to be extended until midnight," he said.

The government of Palembang City is focusing on the tourism sector which this year targets to receive 2.1 million domestic tourists and 12 thousand foreign tourists.

This target increased compared to that in 2016 which was only 1.9 million domestic tourists and 9 thousand foreign tourists.

"I am optimistic this target can be achieved because this year there has been a test of the Asian Games event, besides there is also a special effort of the travel services that offer a Musi Tour package," he said.

In the tour package it can already be mapped that foreign tourists have different tourist destinations such as that for tourists from Malaysia who prefer to go shopping. There are the 16 Ilir Market and Songket clothes area in Suro.

He said Singapore tourists loved to spend more time for shopping, and tourists from China prefer to visit the tourism temple located in 10 Ulu, Kampung Kapitan and Pulau Kemaro.

"Most of the tourists who come to the city of Palembang are tourists from Malaysia, China and Singapore," he said.
